Bengals RB Joe Mixon misses practice with ankle injury

On Monday, Cincinnati Bengals head coach Zac Taylor refuted an earlier report that starting running back Joe Mixon was considered "week-to-week" because of the ankle injury he suffered in last Thursday's win over the Jacksonville Jaguars and instead said the ball-carrier was "day-to-day."

Mixon would not have been able to play if Wednesday were also game day.

As Josh Alper noted for Pro Football Talk, Mixon did not practice on Wednesday ahead of this Sunday's matchup against the Green Bay Packers, who, like the Bengals, will enter this weekend at 3-1. Alper added that Taylor told reporters the team will "ease" Mixon back and that the 25-year-old will need to successfully complete some on-the-field work later this week to be cleared to face the Packers.

While Mixon leads the Bengals with 353 rushing yards and two touchdowns on the ground, backup Samaje Perine has only 28 yards on nine attempts this season. Rookie and sixth-round draft pick Chris Evans is also on the depth chart but hasn't yet logged a carry.
