Bengals RB Mixon's ankle sprain less serious than first thought?
Joseph Maiorana-USA TODAY Sports

Bengals RB Joe Mixon more 'day-to-day' than 'week-to-week' with ankle sprain?

It was reported earlier on Monday that Cincinnati Bengals starting running back Joe Mixon was considered "week-to-week" because of the ankle injury he suffered in this past Thursday's 24-21 victory over the winless Jacksonville Jaguars.

That may not necessarily be the case.

According to Charlie Goldsmith of the Cincinnati Enquirer, Cincinnati head coach Zac Taylor told reporters Monday that Mixon is more "day-to-day" than "week-to-week."

"A running back with an ankle, limit him early in the week," Taylor added about Mixon.

Mixon leads the Bengals with 353 rushing yards and a pair of touchdowns on the ground this season but was spotted on the sideline during Cincinnati's final offensive drive against Jacksonville. Backup Samaje Perine is second on the Bengals with a paltry 28 yards on nine rushes but would likely be the next man up on the depth chart if Mixon is unable to go in this coming Sunday's matchup against the Green Bay Packers.

Cincinnati opened the season at 3-1, while the Packers hold the same record and are coming off three straight victories.
