Bills GM on Odell Beckham Jr. talk: 'Show me a talented player I’m not checking into'

Ever since he signed with the Buffalo Bills in free agency, edge rusher Von Miller has been trying to recruit wide receiver Odell Beckham Jr., his former teammate with the Los Angeles Rams, to join him in upstate New York.

On Thursday, Bills general manager Brandon Beane finally addressed that talk and did not completely dismiss the idea of OBJ joining an already stacked Bills offense.

“Anything Von says I’m going to respect,” Beane told the Buffalo media. “He wants to win, and I want to surround myself with as many people like that as I can.

Beckham, still unsigned as a free agent, is recovering from a torn ACL that took place in Rams' win over the Cincinnati Bengals in the Super Bowl last February.

“He’s a talented player," added Beane, while also acknowledging Beckham's ACL recovery. "Show me a talented player I’m not checking into. I’m always going to do that and whether that is a trade for someone or letting a guy get healthy. Again, the cap factors into it too.”

The 29-year-old Beckham appeared in 13 games for the Rams and Cleveland Browns a year ago, catching 44 passes for 537 yards. Beckham was a superstar early in his career with the New York Giants, but injuries and erratic quarterback play the past couple of seasons have greatly reduced and limited his production. Now he is coming off of a major knee injury.

There is some risk there, of course, but assuming his recovery goes as planned, he could still make an impact with a great quarterback (and Josh Allen is) in the right system. The Bills already have one of the league's top receivers in Stefon Diggs, while Gabriel Davis looks like he is on the verge of a breakout. OBJ would not need to be the go-to guy there, but he could still make that group eve more dangerous if the Bills decide to go in that direction.
