Brian Daboll: Giants' success 'all about the players'

After the New York Giants improved to 4-1 on the season via Sunday's comeback 27-22 win over the 3-2 Green Bay Packers at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium in London, Giants first-year head coach Brian Daboll found himself being mentioned as a legitimate Coach of the Year candidate.

During Monday's media availability, Daboll was asked about such takes and also about the amount of praise offered to other members of the staff such as defensive coordinator Don "Wink" Martindale. Daboll did well to pass the credit on to others inside the locker room.

"I'd say it's all about the players," Daboll remarked about the team's successes this fall, per the club's official transcripts. "Give those guys credit. They're the ones that come in every day, work extremely hard, do everything they can do during practice, in the film room. And I'd say the coaches do an excellent job – the trainers. It's a team, everything is a team effort here.

"We've only played five games, so this is a very humbling league. It can get you quick. So, focus on the next game – the things we can do better, which there is certainly plenty of them. We'll continue to work and try to improve in those areas, but it's all about our team and trying to get better each day."

Under Daboll, star running back Saquon Barkley has emerged as an Offensive Player of the Year and/or a Most Valuable Player candidate, and ESPN stats show the 25-year-old in the final year of his rookie contract began Monday sitting second in the entire NFL behind only Nick Chubb of the Cleveland Browns with 533 rushing yards. Barkley has also contributed three rushing scores and 18 receptions for 143 yards.

Daboll, Barkley and Big Blue will next welcome the 3-2 Baltimore Ravens to MetLife Stadium this coming Sunday.
