Broncos are finding their 'groove' amid three-game win streak

After a disastrous start, it appeared the Denver Broncos were primed for another terrible season. They've snapped out of their funk, though, and are on the verge of completing a remarkable in-season turnaround.

"It's the NFL, I mean credit these guys," Broncos head coach Sean Payton said following a 24-22 victory over the Buffalo Bills. "There's a little toughness to this league. I keep saying it — there's that fine line between a groove and a rut."

In Week 3, the Miami Dolphins demolished the Broncos by a score of 70-20. The blowout may have motivated them. Denver (4-5) has won three of its last five games, including an upset over the defending Super Bowl champion Kansas City Chiefs.

In Monday's victory against Buffalo, the Broncos defense forced four turnovers, quarterback Russell Wilson threw two TDs and kicker Wil Lutz nailed his second winning field-goal attempt after Buffalo was penalized for too many men on the field.

Wilson thinks the team is turning the corner.

"We believe in each other. We believe in what we can do," the 34-year-old QB said in a postgame news conference. "To beat the Chiefs, to beat these guys, it sets a standard of who we should be, who we can be and who we're going to be."

Denver is heading in the right direction, but it's still out of the playoff picture. The New York Times simulator notes it has only a 10 percent chance to make the playoffs. Per Tankathon, it has the 12th-most difficult remaining schedule. However, the Broncos could use their win streak as a springboard.

"This is a game that can propel them to the heights they hope to reach," ESPN analyst and Hall of Fame QB Troy Aikman said Monday on "SportsCenter with Scott Van Pelt."
