The depth of the Cleveland Browns defense has taken a massive hit over the past few days, with Maurice Hurst and Ogbo Okoronkwo both suffering torn pectoral muscles. While neither player is a star player or even someone who can be considered a starting-caliber player, they are going to need someone to help pick up the slack on their defensive front. Perhaps a player familiar with the defensive scheme of Jim Schwartz could be just what they need. That player? Ndamukong Suh.
Suh is a free agent and is looking to join a contending team late in the season. At 8-5 with four games to go, the Browns are in position to make the playoffs, but their current situation may put the potential length of their playoff run in doubt. It would be wise for the Browns to find someone with some level of experience to help solidify their defense, and Suh clearly fits that bill.
With the season only having a handful of games left, they cannot afford to have a steep learning curve. Suh knows Schwartz’s defense and is a proven commodity in the NFL. Even though he is not the player he once was, Cleveland would not need him to carry the defense. Being able to insert Suh into an established defensive front should help get the most out of him. Cleveland’s defense revolves around Myles Garrett, with the others playing complementary roles. Suh is more than capable of doing exactly that.
The Browns must understand they cannot afford to waste their defensive efforts from this season. Finding a way to capitalize on their elite defense is an absolute must as the season nears its conclusion. Suh could be the right person to call upon in their time of need.
