Bruce Arians' wife, kids wanted him to consider opting out before 2020 season

The Super Bowl LV champion Tampa Bay Buccaneers should be thankful Bruce Arians didn't opt out of the 2020 season, because that was an option for the 68-year-old head coach.

Arians told Sam Farmer of the Los Angeles Times that his wife and children urged him to consider opting out of the season because of the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic.

"Some people said, 'Dad, you need to opt out this year,' and I was like, "No way. I'll risk it. It's going to be a magical year,'" Arians said.

He continued by saying the only thing he did throughout the season was go to work and go home. He didn't want to risk contracting COVID-19 by going out to dinner or participating in other activities.

"I went to work, came home," Arians said. "We haven't gone out to dinner since July. We have all these open-air restaurants here, but I just couldn't risk it. Both of us are high risk."

Now that the season is over, it seems like Arians is enjoying himself. Bucs general manager Jason Licht shared a photo of himself enjoying a beer with Arians on Tuesday.

The Buccaneers will have a boat parade on Wednesday to celebrate their Super Bowl title and then will get some much-needed time off ahead of the 2021 campaign.
