Cam Newton has 'a lot of things that I need to get off my chest,' not retiring

As of Wednesday afternoon, 32-year-old quarterback and 2015 NFL Most Valuable Player Cam Newton remains a free agent after being released by the New England Patriots following the preseason.

Per Mike Florio of Pro Football Talk, Newton may have something to say about that and other subjects in his latest installment of his "Funky Friday" video series.

"On this week’s 'Funky Friday,' I have a lot of things that I need to get off my chest," Newton explains in a short teaser. "This is not a retirement speech, and I have a lot of football still in me."

One can only speculate what Newton will address. Perhaps he will discuss missing multiple practices last month because of a so-called "misunderstanding" of the NFL's COVID-19 policies, or maybe he will touch upon his current coronavirus vaccination status. He could respond to the notion that teams around the NFL allegedly aren't interested in his services ahead of Week 1 or to a recent story that claimed New England rookie quarterback Mac Jones was helping Newton learn the playbook this summer.

Right now, what's clear is Newton still wants to play in the NFL. It remains to be seen if any club will give him an opportunity to do so before 2022 at the earliest.
