*UPDATE: Demercado is being evaluated for a concussion/neck injury. His return is questionable*
PITTSBURGH -- Arizona Cardinals running back Emari Demercado took quite the blow in the early stages of their Week 13 battle against the Pittsburgh Steelers.
With 7:53 left in the first quarter and the Cardinals facing a third-and-long, Kyler Murray dumped a pass off to Demercado. Steelers linebacker Elandon Roberts came flying in and hit Demercado high, leaving the Cardinals back on the ground for several minutes while the medical staff gave him attention.
Roberts was assessed a personal foul penalty, which gave Arizona 15 yards and a fresh set of chains.
Demercado eventually got up and was greeted with a round of applause from the Acrisure Stadium crowd.
Behind starting running back James Conner, Demercado has split various time with other Cardinals rushers this season. Arizona recently signed Michael Carter to their backfield.
Demercado has played in nine games for the Cardinals this season with two starts under his belt while Conner dealt with injuries. He's rushed 52 times for 210 yards (four yards per carry) with one touchdown.
He also has 64 yards on 12 receptions.
The Steelers and Cardinals are currently locked in at 3-3 in the early stages of the first quarter. This article will be updated if/when any developments occur.
