The Kansas City Chiefs were back in their indoor facility on Thursday as they continued practice and preparation for the divisional round of the playoffs against the Buffalo Bills.

The injury report was mostly status quo, with a single player missing from practice. They did have one new development with their rookie offensive tackle, Wanya Morris, who aims to return for the divisional round after missing the wild-card round due to a concussion.

Here's what we know about that injury.

Explaining the Wanya Morris development:

Morris was in the NFL's concussion protocol after suffering a head injury in Week 17's game against the Los Angeles Chargers. Morris sat out of the wild-card round of the playoffs, but he returned to practice on Wednesday in a full capacity.

Going from a full practice on Wednesday to a limited practice on Thursday without any new injuries listed suggests that Morris had new or worsening concussion symptoms after making his initial return to practice. He can't graduate to the next phase of the NFL's return-to-play protocols with new or worsening symptoms. You can learn more about the five-step ramp-up period here

The good news here is that veteran LT Donovan Smith had arguably his best career game in the wild-card round against the Miami Dolphins. He remains a full participant in practice, though listed on the injury report with his stinger (neck injury) that kept him out for several weeks, including the Week 14 matchup with the Bills.

Observations:

  • A second consecutive practice without Derrick Nnadi suggests that he could be ruled out for the divisional round of the playoffs. A limited practice on Friday would give him a chance.
  • L'Jarius Sneed remains limited at practice, but his presence at the podium for media availability on Thursday suggests this is nothing more than maintenance on his calf.
