Cowboys owner Jerry Jones makes bold claim about Dak Prescott

Cowboys quarterback Dak Prescott is playing some of the best football of his career, and Dallas owner Jerry Jones thinks he deserves to be in the MVP conversation.

"I do, I certainly do," Jones said Tuesday on KRLD-FM in Dallas when asked if he believes Prescott is an MVP candidate. "He's put together a series of games that are the best in his career. It's the fact that he's doing them back-to-back. Boy, he's really in a position where it's not only physical but mental."

As of Tuesday, oddschecker gives the 30-year-old the eighth-best MVP odds (+4000). In nine games, the former Pro Bowler has completed 67.8 percent of his passes for 2,415 yards, 17 TDs, six interceptions and a 72.7 QBR, third in the NFL.

After Prescott led the league in interceptions in 2022 (15 in 12 games), he's reestablished himself as a franchise QB and regained his swagger.

"I've never been a statistics guy," Prescott said following a Week 10 victory over the New York Giants. "I can tell you that I've never been as confident, as free, and as connected with the guys on the offense, play calling and just this whole system."

Prescott's catching fire at the right time. The 30-year-old has two years remaining on a four-year, $160M contract, which includes an out in 2024 ($61.915M in dead cap). Per Spotrac, his market value is a four-year deal worth $47.5M annually. To earn this extension, he must play at an elite level.

If he keeps thriving and leads the Cowboys on a deep playoff run, he could solidify his future with Dallas and prove he's one of the league's top signal-callers.
