The Dallas Cowboys have finally made another move in the offseason.

After a notably quiet period, during which they secured only veteran LB Eric Kendricks, the Cowboys have taken a step forward in addressing their needs, particularly at the running back position.

According to a recent report from Todd Archer of ESPN, the team has made a move by signing veteran RB Royce Freeman to a one-year contract.

Freeman entered the NFL as a third-round pick for the Denver Broncos in 2018. While primarily serving as a backup in Denver, he managed to amass 1,187 yards and eight touchdowns across eight starts.

His stint with the Houston Texans saw limited action, with just 209 yards gained from 75 carries over two seasons. After a brief tenure with the Carolina Panthers, where he rushed for 77 yards, Freeman joined the Los Angeles Rams last season. There, he contributed 319 rushing yards and two touchdowns under the guidance of coach Sean McVay.

It’s clear that Freeman’s signing doesn’t exactly set the world on fire for the Cowboys. Rather, it’s a move aimed at bolstering depth and providing insurance, all while fitting into the team’s budget-friendly strategy.

This offseason has fallen short of expectations for the Cowboys, particularly after the disappointment of their postseason defeat, as noted by team owner Jerry Jones.

Despite this signing, the Dallas Cowboys are still anticipated to address their running back situation further in the upcoming NFL Draft. Additionally, speculation continues about the potential return of Ezekiel Elliott to the team.
