The Miami Dolphins have had quite the season so far, reaching 11-5 and with a chance to win the AFC East and claim the #2 seed in the AFC with a win or tie on Sunday night against the Buffalo Bills.
They've gotten there on the shoulders of an explosive offense and a defense that's provided plenty of impact plays. Unfortunately, the league didn't recognize a number of those players when the Pro Bowl original ballot selections were released on Wednesday evening.
Bradley Chubb took to Twitter to complain about a certain omission. However, it wasn't about himself.
There's no doubt that Miami deserved at least the total of six players on the Pro Bowl that it got. Terron Armstead's inclusion might be curious to some since he's only played in nine games this season. However, he's the top-graded tackle in the AFC by Pro Football Focus at 84.9.
Chubb calling out the omission of his teammates is an inspiring thing to see. He could just as easily have complained about his own omission. Instead, he pointed out the lack of recognition for what those fellow members of his front seven have done this year. He also noted that he and Jaelan Phillips' respective consideration at least had to do with their injuries.
Andrew Van Ginkel has been a breath of fresh air for Miami's defense with a sterling 91.2 Pro Football Focus grade. It's hard to image where the Dolphins would have been this year without him or how they would be able to tackle this final stretch if he wasn't here. However, with 6 sacks, he wasn't going to get the nod over the three players above him (T.J. Watt, Khalil Mack, and Josh Allen) who all have 16 or more sacks this year. Same for Chubb with 11.
Zach Sieler has proven worthy of the contract extension he received before the season. Rising free agent Christian Wilkins has potentially made himself a lot of money this year as well - either in Miami or elsewhere. However, it would have been tough to get the nod ahead of the trio that was selected in Chris Jones, Quinnen Williams, and Justin Madubuike. Madubuike isn't even the starter and has totaled 13 sacks this year for the top-seeded Baltimore Ravens.
Still, it's encouraging to see Chubb throw some love for his teammates instead of himself. Now Chubb will watch his teammates try to qualify for a bigger prize instead in February.
