Dolphins' Chosen Anderson addresses latest name change

New Miami Dolphins wide receiver Chosen Anderson has addressed his latest name change, which occurred after the 2022 NFL season.

"I want to keep it intimate but it was a positive thing," Anderson told reporters on Tuesday, as shared by Joe Schad of The Palm Beach Post. "It's something I'm very grateful for and something I feel strongly about. This is my new era and direction. Kind of like a foundational thing moving forward for my generations."

Anderson was with the Carolina Panthers in May 2022 when it was learned he changed the spelling of his first name from Robby to Robbie. He then tweeted in June he was considering retirement before he reported to the Panthers ahead of mandatory minicamp, but Carolina shipped him to the Arizona Cardinals in October following an in-game argument with then-Panthers wide receivers coach Joe Dailey.

In total, Anderson tallied just seven receptions for 76 yards across 10 games with Arizona. The Cardinals released him in March, but he found an opportunity to resurrect his career with the Dolphins the following month. According to Over the Cap (h/t Dolphins Wire/USA Today), Anderson put pen to paper on a one-year contract with Miami that carries a base salary of roughly $1.17M.

"Being in Arizona was a very peaceful time for me," Anderson said Tuesday about his cup-of-coffee stint with the Cardinals. "I found a lot of peace being out there. (The fallout and trade) was disappointing but it is what it is. But I grew from it and that's what molded me to be where I am today."

Leaving Arizona for Miami could prove to be a positive move for Anderson in multiple ways. In his latest "Football Morning in America" column, NBC Sports' Peter King noted that the Cardinals are essentially rebuilding with 2025 in mind. Meanwhile, King views the Dolphins as a team "on the border" as it pertains to competing for a Super Bowl berth.
