Dolphins OL Robert Hunt on illegal TD catch-and-run: 'I was just trying to score'

In an ugly, penalty-ridden "Thursday Night Football" game in Week 10 between the Baltimore Ravens and Miami Dolphins, the most impressive play on offense may have been one that didn't even count.

With 13:11 left in the fourth quarter and the Dolphins leading 6-3 and driving into the red zone, offensive lineman Robert Hunt grabbed a would-be screen pass from quarterback Tua Tagovailoa just outside the 10-yard line. Hunt made one sweet cut back and rumbled towards the end zone before being flipped over at the goal line.

Though it appeared for a moment that Hunt had reached across the goal line for a touchdown, a flag was quickly thrown, as it was realized that the 25-year-old had not reported as an eligible receiver.

"Calais (Campbell), he's been playing forever, I saw him standing there, I saw the ball, I didn't want it to get intercepted, so grabbed it and took off running with it," Hunt said, via NFL.com. "I was just trying to win at that point. ... Even though it didn't count, it didn't click in my head that it didn't count. I was just trying to score."

Following the game, Hunt indicated that in high school he played "a little receiver, tight end." When kicker Jason Sanders finished off Miami's drive with his third field goal, Hunt said that his teammates were animated on the sidelines.

"The guys just laughed at me," he said. "I got a couple 'That was nice, that was the best play I've seen tonight."

Hunt and the rest of the Dolphins will take a 3-7 record into their Week 11 outing against the New York Jets.
