Drew Lock: 'Nothing has been promised' with Seahawks

2019 second-round draft pick Drew Lock lost his starting quarterback job to veteran Teddy Bridgewater with the Denver Broncos last summer and was then part of the blockbuster trade that involved Denver landing one-time Super Bowl champion signal-caller Russell Wilson from the Seattle Seahawks.

As things stand today, websites such as ESPN list Lock as Seattle's QB1. Per Myles Simmons of Pro Football Talk, Lock told media members on Monday he's "really, really excited" for a "fresh start" and to ideally compete for the starting job with the Seahawks later this summer. However, the 25-year-old acknowledged his spot on the depth chart isn't guaranteed.

"Nothing has been promised — as I would want," Lock explained about his situation. "I’d want them to come in here and tell me I need to earn it, tell me to come in and work, tell me I need to come in and compete. I need to play well. There’s a lot of things I need to do to show this organization that I should be the one taking those snaps. But right now, nothing is promised. It’s just my job to come in and work extremely hard and compete for that starting job."

Also on Monday, the Indianapolis Colts, New Orleans Saints, and Atlanta Falcons all made moves for (presumed) starting quarterbacks, which leaves names such as Baker Mayfield of the Cleveland Browns and San Francisco 49ers veteran Jimmy Garoppolo as potential options for the Seahawks if they want to acquire a proven commodity rather than a rookie in the upcoming draft to compete with Lock.

Lock has appeared in 24 career regular-season games and completed 59.3% of his passes over those contests for 4,740 yards with 25 touchdowns and 20 interceptions.
