Eagles bringing back key member of their secondary

James Bradberry disclosed just a few days ago that the Philadelphia Eagles asked him to allow them the chance to match any offer the All-Pro cornerback got in free agency.

Whether Bradberry did so or not isn’t known, but he’s heading back to Philly just the same after agreeing to a three-year, $38 million contract with the Eagles on Tuesday, according to ESPN’s Adam Schefter.

Bradberry appears to have given Philadelphia a hometown discount as the $12.6 million average annual value of his new deal is well below his projected market value of $15.1 million per season.

Released by the New York Giants in May of last year, Bradberry signed a one-year, $7.5 million contract with Philadelphia just nine days later, where he made his first All-Pro team and played in his first Super Bowl.

The 29-year-old CB had a breakout season in 2022. Of cornerbacks with 400 or more coverage snaps, Bradberry led the league with 21 forced incompletions, and he allowed the second-lowest completion percentage (46.9), had the third-most pass breakups (12), tied for the sixth-most interceptions (four), tied for the 11th-fewest touchdowns allowed (two) and surrendered the 17th-fewest yards after the catch (159), according to Pro Football Focus.

Bradberry led an Eagles pass defense that ranked first in the NFL, allowing just 179.8 passing yards per game and 22 touchdowns. Philly also tied for the fourth-most interceptions (17) and turnovers (27) in the NFL.
