Eagles CB Darius Slay trolls Giants, thanks them for letting Eagles draft WR DeVonta Smith
Two offseasons ago, the Philadelphia Eagles jumped in front of the New York Giants to select dynamic wideout DeVonta Smith with the tenth overall pick in the 2021 NFL draft, and All-Pro cornerback Darius Slay is still thrilled over how things turned out.
On this week's edition of his podcast "Big Play Slay," he not only recapped the Eagles' 48-22 thrashing of the Giants but thanked the organization for allowing Smith to don midnight green instead of blue.
"Thank you for letting us trade up to get Smitty, 'cause' we know you all wanted him," Slay said. "And you see what he did to ya'll today. Thank you."
Smith caught five passes for 64 yards against the Giants, including a 41-yard fourth-down conversion for a touchdown which saw the quick-footed wideout split two defenders before scoring uncontested.
In three career games against the Giants, Smith is averaging 13.8 yards per catch, with 12 receptions for 166 yards and two touchdowns.
Missing out on Smith is bound to haunt the Giants for years to come, especially considering how the top of that year's draft shook out for New York. After the Eagles struck a deal with the Dallas Cowboys, of all teams, to move up to No. 10 and draft Smith, the Giants didn't stand pat at No. 11.
Instead, the Giants packaged the pick to the Chicago Bears for four draft picks, including the No. 20 pick in the 2021 draft, which they used to select wide receiver Kadarius Toney. And we all know what happened there, as Toney is now a Kansas City Chief.
Slay dogged the Giants even before Sunday's dismantling. Last week, Slay lauded the Eagles' rival for releasing cornerback James Bradberry, who's been a standout in Philly's secondary this season.
"He's a dog. I don't know how they let that man out the room like that," Slay told reporters. "But, I'm glad they did. Very glad they did. I appreciate it."
