Eagles could utilize Jalen Hurts immediately
Are the Philadelphia Eagles ready to move on from Carson Wentz in the near future? It certainly sounds like a possibility.
The Eagles drafted Jalen Hurts with the 53rd overall pick in the draft, and Philadelphia head coach Doug Pederson had quite a lot to say about his new quarterback after drafting him.
Obviously the Eagles will roll with Wentz heading into the 2020 campaign, but if he doesn't perform as expected then maybe Pederson will turn to Hurts halfway through the season.
Although Hurts is vastly unproven, he did have a solid 2019 campaign at Oklahoma. The 21-year-old threw for 3,851 yards, 32 touchdowns and eight interceptions last season while completing 69.7 percent of his passes. He also rushed for 1,298 yards 20 touchdowns.
Hurts is extremely versatile, and it's no surprise that he may have an immediate impact for the Eagles. However it's hard to say that he'll take over the starting role in 2020.
Maybe he'll learn from Wentz for a few years and then take over as QB1. However, Wentz has endured plenty of injuries through his four-year career thus far, so Hurts may slot in sooner rather than later.
Philadelphia went 9-7 last season and although they won the NFC East, there's plenty of work to be done ahead of the 2020 season.
