Eagles HC Nick Sirianni addresses job security uncertainty
Philadelphia Eagles head coach Nick Sirianni isn't losing sleep about his job security amid the club's recent woes.
"No, I'm not concerned about that," Sirianni said about the situation during a Tuesday appearance on Philadelphia sports radio station WIP, as shared by Cody Benjamin of CBS Sports. "We're just looking to get back on the right track. [I'm] not concerned about that. I know the players and the coaches we have on this team. We have great leaders, and all we wanna do is right the ship."
Sirianni guided the Eagles to Super Bowl LVII last February, where his team suffered a brutal 38–35 loss to the Kansas City Chiefs. Philadelphia then jumped out to an impressive 10-1 start to the ongoing season before things seemingly fell apart.
The Eagles enter Week 18 at 11-5 and need help to finish atop the NFC East standings ahead of the 11-5 Dallas Cowboys. Perhaps most glaring is that Sirianni's decision to replace Sean Desai with Matt Patricia as defensive coordinator last month hasn't produced the desired results.
Sirianni insisted Tuesday his relationships with players aren't "broken" despite four losses across five games.
"We know we have the right people in this building to accomplish everything we wanna accomplish," Sirianni explained. "There's a lot of teams that would love a playoff ticket, right? We got one. And we know that anything's possible when you get into that moment. Has it (gone) the way we anticipated it? No. But we know our goals are in front of us."
As of late Tuesday morning, DraftKings Sportsbook listed the Eagles third among the betting favorites at +500 odds to represent the NFC in Super Bowl LVIII next month. What was thought by some to be the conference's best side shortly after Thanksgiving Day could soon become a one-and-done playoff team, and one wonders if Philadelphia's slide could cost Sirianni more than just defeats.
