Eagles special teams unit gets major boost ahead of Super Bowl LVII

The Philadelphia Eagles special teams unit received a significant boost nearly 24 hours from kickoff at Super Bowl LVII.

On Saturday, the Eagles activated punter Arryn Siposs from injured reserve. Siposs missed the last six weeks with an ankle injury, giving way to former Pro Bowler Brett Kern, who was inconsistent at best during his short time in midnight green.

Not only is Siposs a better option at punter than Kern right now, but he's also the full-time holder on field goals for kicker Jake Elliott, an often overlooked but essential aspect of the game.

Despite recording only 44 attempts, the Eagles downed 36.4% of Siposs' punts inside their opponent's 20-yard line.

Siposs suffered his ankle injury on Dec. 8 against the New York Giants, smashed along the sidelines after scooping up a blocked punt.

Philadelphia opened the 21-day practice window for Siposs on Feb. 2. He returned to practice reporting no physical restrictions while telling Jeff McLane of the Philadelphia Inquirer that he was "good to go."

Ahead of Sunday, both the Eagles and Chiefs are remarkably healthy. The only player on either team's injury report is Eagles punt returner Britain Covey.

However, Philly also activated wideout Greg Ward on Saturday, who has past experience returning punts. From 2019-21, Ward returned 30 punts for 170 yards, averaging 5.7 yards per return.
