Eagles trade former No. 2 pick Carson Wentz to Colts

The Philadelphia Eagles have agreed to trade Carson Wentz to the Indianapolis Colts in exchange for a 2021 third-round pick and a 2022 conditional second-round pick that has the potential to turn into a first-round pick. The trade was reported by ESPN's Adam Schefter and Chris Mortensen.

The Eagles were hoping to land a first-round pick for Wentz but had not been having much luck on the trade market. This deal could land Philadelphia the first-round pick they were looking for, albeit in next year's draft instead of this one. According to Schefter, the conditional second-round pick will become a first if Wentz's "playtime" is above 75% next season or if it is above 70% and the Colts make the playoffs.

For the Colts, they fill a massive hole in their roster, as the team had no clear replacement at quarterback after Philip Rivers announced his retirement following a Wild-Card weekend loss to the Buffalo Bills. Indianapolis had long been the rumored preferred destination for Wentz, so the quarterback can reunite with Frank Reich, who was Philadelphia's offensive coordinator in 2016-17.

If Reich can help Wentz regain his old form under center, the Colts could immediately become one of the most dangerous teams in the NFL.
