Colts players celebrate Carson Wentz trade on social media

Carson Wentz's new teammates are expressing their excitement to have him join the Colts, including former Defensive Player of the Year Darius Leonard.

"Let’s get to work!!!" Leonard tweeted in response to the trade. "Welcome to Indy! Can’t wait to see what the future holds in the 317."

Two of Wentz's newest targets, receivers Parris Campbell and Michael Pitt Jr., also took to Twitter to celebrate their new quarterback. A couple of former Colts even voiced their approval, including pass-rushing legend Robert Mathis.

Wentz was acquired via trade from the Philadelphia Eagles in exchange for a 2021 third-round pick and a conditional 2022 second-round pick. According to Adam Schefter, the second-round pick will become a first if Wentz's "playtime" is above 75% next season or if it is above 70% and the Colts make the playoffs.

The Colts were in desperate need of a quarterback, as former fourth-round pick Jacob Eason was the only quarterback on the roster due to Philip Rivers' retirement and Jacoby Brissett's looming free agency.

Wentz is an intriguing addition for Indianapolis. He is clearly talented and still young but he has struggled to stay healthy and has looked mistake-prone when he's managed to stay on the field. The hope is that Wentz will be able to regain his old form by reuniting with former Eagles offensive coordinator Frank Reich, who is now the head coach of the Colts. Wentz will also have the added bonus of playing behind one of the best offensive lines in the league.
