Everything must go: Could Saints be sellers at the deadline?

It's safe to say that the New Orleans Saints haven't gotten off to the start general manager Mickey Loomis had on his vision board. With one of the oldest rosters in football, the Saints are built to win now. Instead, at 2-4, a loss to the Arizona Cardinals on Thursday may be the franchise's sign to start planning for the future.

CBS Sports posted an article Wednesday suggesting 13 trades it would like to see before the trade deadline Nov. 1 at 4 p.m. EST. One move has the Saints parting with their longest-tenured defensive player, team captain and defensive end Cameron Jordan. Per CBS, the Saints would trade their star defensive end to the Kansas City Chiefs for two draft picks in the draft, second- and third-round selections.

If they win Thursday night's game, it would be hard to see the Saints parting ways with Jordan. They would be 3-4 and a half-game out of first in the NFC South. As much of a train wreck as this season has been, the Saints still have time to get back on track. A loss, however, would drop them to  2-5 with games against the Baltimore Ravens, Tampa Bay Buccaneers and Philadelphia Eagles remaining. The Saints would be lucky to finish the season above .500.

Loomis has put the franchise in a corner with risky trades, including one that left the team without a first-round pick in next year's draft. By starting the rebuild, the Saints could recoup some of the lost capital. With a roster loaded with talent, other teams will be circling like vultures.

The Saints are fast approaching the end times as far as this current roster construction is concerned. The defense looks slower than it has in years past and isn't tackling well, and that's not to say anything about the inconsistencies on offense. A reboot will need to happen at some point in New Orleans. The Cardinals could be the team that gives the Saints the push they need to get it started.
