Falcons GM: We're definitely going to add quarterback, wide receiver this offseason

The Atlanta Falcons are preparing for another season with quarterback Matt Ryan and wide receiver Julio Jones. However, it appears they're already thinking about who will play those positions in the future.

Falcons general manager Terry Fontenot told Sports Illustrated's Albert Breer that he plans to add a quarterback and wide receiver this offseason.

"The question I get a lot is, 'Hey, would you be willing to draft a quarterback, would you be willing to draft a receiver, despite how strong your receivers are or where you are with Matt Ryan?'" Fontenot said. "And yes. Yes, yes, yes. We're definitely going to acquire at both of those positions, and we're going to work hard to bring in competition. But I hold both those guys in high regard."

The Falcons have the fourth-overall pick in the 2021 NFL Draft and could select a quarterback. Trevor Lawrence probably won't be available, but Atlanta could have the option of choosing from Justin Fields, Zach Wilson, Trey Lance and Mac Jones. Atlanta also has picks 35, 68, 99, 132 and 163.

In terms of a wide receiver, the Falcons could add someone via the draft or free agency. If they don't select a QB with the fourth-overall pick, Atlanta could select Ja'Marr Chase, DeVonta Smith or Jaylen Waddle. If they opt to use their second-round pick on a receiver, likely options are Kadarius Toney, Terrace Marshall Jr. and Tutu Atwell.

If they opt to add via free agency, A.J. Green, Allen Robinson, Golden Tate, DeSean Jackson, Sammy Watkins, Marvin Jones, Antonio Brown, JuJu Smith-Schuster and Corey Davis are among receivers expected to be available.

After several disappointing seasons, Fontenot could opt to select younger players in order to prepare for the future.
