The Falcons clearly aren’t satisfied with their roster, especially on the defensive side of the ball.

Last week, a report surfaced that Atlanta was in talks with Bud Dupree for a potential reunion. The veteran finished the 2023 campaign as the Falcons co-sack leader, but Dupree ended up going with the Chargers.

That isn’t even their most pressing roster need, though. The cornerback room has more questions than answers, but it seems the organization recognizes that. According to Jeremy Fowler, the Falcons are hosting free agent Jerry Jacobs.

Jerry Jacobs is a great story. He went undrafted in 2021 and caught on with Lions, turning into a starter over the past three seasons in Detroit, finishing the 2023 campaign with 55 tackles, three interceptions, and eight passes defended.

Jacobs started at least eight games in each of his three seasons in Detroit, including 12 games during the regular season in 2023 for a Lions team that ended up making a deep playoff run.

For his career, the potential Falcons signing has appeared in 40 games, making 29 starts. Last season, he gave up a 63.4% completion percentage (52-of-82) when targeted and 7.8 yards per target, according to Pro Football Reference.

However, Jacobs ended up losing his starting position to Kindle Vildor. He was then placed on IR for a knee injury before the postseason run, ending his playing time with the Lions, who ended up not tendering him a contract this offseason.

For the Falcons, I’d like someone a little more proven in the cornerback room, but at least the new regime isn’t satisfied with one of the worst cornerback units in the league.
