The Falcons continue to add bodies to their roster ahead of OTAs and training camp; this time, signing former 49ers tight end Ross Dwelley.
Dwelley has spent all six years of his career with San Francisco under Kyle Shanahan, starting 17 games in total. He’s primarily been used as a blocker, with his best receiving season coming back in 2020 when he caught 19 balls for 245 yards and a touchdown. Last season, Dwelley hauled in just one pass for 12 yards.
The 29-year-old will be competing for one of the final spots on the roster, but he should have a decent chance of winning a job. The Falcons won’t be using a ton of two and three tight end sets under new offensive coordinator Zac Robinson as they did previously under Arthur Smith. However, there is no clear-cut TE3 behind Kyle Pitts and Charlie Woerner. That competition could last throughout the preseason between Ross Dwelley and 2022 sixth-round pick John Fitzpatrick.
