Former Broncos kicker quickly finds new home with Jaguars

Brandon McManus found a new team on Thursday morning, less than 48 hours after being released by the Denver Broncos in a somewhat surprising move.

According to ESPN's Adam Schefter, McManus' deal with the Jaguars is for one year.

McManus had been the last remaining player on the Broncos roster from their Super Bowl 50 team. The 31-year-old played a crucial role on that year's Peyton Manning-led offense, booting through all 10 of his playoff field goal attempts and all three of his extra-point tries as well.

While McManus has a career 81.4% success rate on field goals in the regular season and a 96.9% conversion rate on extra points, the 2022 campaign was one of his worst. He went just 28-for-36 (77.8%) on field goals across 17 games in the regular season and missed multiple extra points (25-for-27) for just the second time in his career.

McManus went undrafted out of Temple University in 2013 and after being signed and waived by the Indianapolis Colts that year, he was picked up by the New York Giants in 2014. Following four preseason games with the Giants, he was traded to the Broncos in August of that year and spent the next near decade in the Mile High City.

Though McManus leaves an offense that has plenty of potential with quarterback Russell Wilson, running back Javonte Williams and wide receivers Courtland Sutton and Jerry Jeudy (as well as new head coach Sean Payton), he now joins an even more exciting group in Jacksonville.

With Pro Bowl quarterback Trevor Lawrence, 1,000-yard rusher Travis Etienne, 1,000-yard receiver Christian Kirk and new acquisition Calvin Ridley in the fold, McManus should have plenty of opportunities to put up points in 2023.
