Former Pittsburgh Steelers offensive tackle Joe Haeg has announced that he’s retiring after seven NFL season.

Haeg, a fifth-round pick of the Indianapolis Colts in 2016, spent one season with the Steelers in 2021. He made the announcement on X, formerly known as Twitter, on Monday morning.

“I never could have imagined winning 5 FCS National Championships, getting drafted by the Colts, playing far 7 years in the NFL and even winning a Super Bowl,” Haeg wrote. “These accomplishments would not have meant anything if it wasn’t far the guys in the locker room, the many great coaches, and the incredible staff members that I’ve had the pleasure of working alongside for the last 7 years. They are what I will miss the most. I’ve made so many lifelong memories and friendships, and I hope that above all, I had that same impact on them.”

Haeg, 30, played in 12 games made two starts for the Steelers in 2021, one of which was the Week 18 playoff-clinching game against the Baltimore Ravens. He was the team’s third-highest graded offensive linemen among those with more than 100 snaps, according to Pro Football Focus.

He was released on Aug. 30, 2022, after playing one year of a two-year contract. After his release, Haeg caught on with the Cleveland Browns and spent the entire 2022 season there. Haeg was released by the Browns on June 5 and did not re-sign with another NFL team in 2023.

Before his time in Pittsburgh, Haeg spent the 2020 season in Tampa, playing in 12 games and making three starts on the way to the Buccaneers winning Super Bowl XLI in their hometown.

He spent the previous four years with the Indianapolis Colts, making 35 starts over four seasons with the Colts, mostly at right tackle.

Haeg was a five-time FCS National Champion at North Dakota State and was part of the first wave of players from that school to establish themselves in the NFL.
