Four-time Pro Bowler parts ways with Jets

The Jets (6-10) were officially eliminated from playoff contention following their Week 15 loss to the Dolphins (11-5). With no longer a chance to win a Super Bowl, one four-time Pro Bowler asked for his release and was granted it.

New York released veteran RB Dalvin Cook after he restructured his contract to forfeit remaining guarantees, per ESPN's Adam Schefter. It was mutually agreed upon by both sides so that Cook could have the opportunity to play for a playoff team.

Cook's new availability does bring an interesting option for teams hoping to make a run to the Super Bowl. The seven-year veteran has fresh legs late in the season as he carried the ball just 67 times for 214 yards with the Jets.

What teams would potentially be interested in him is still unknown, but there are a couple that would make sense.

The first would be Miami. RB Raheem Mostert didn't play in Week 17 due to knee and ankle injuries. His time on the sideline shouldn't last too long but it could be a smart move by the Dolphins to add a capable veteran like Cook to the mix if his injuries take longer to heal than expected.

The Browns (11-5) are another team to watch. They lost star RB Nick Chubb to a season-ending knee injury in Week 2 and could look to add more depth behind running backs Jerome Ford and Kareem Hunt.

Ford and Hunt have filled in nicely for Chubb, combining for 1,218 yards and 13 touchdowns on the ground but adding Cook's fresh legs could pay dividends in the long run.

The last team to keep an eye on is the Cowboys (11-5). RB Tony Pollard has somewhat underwhelmed this year with just 935 rushing yards and five touchdowns and the depth behind him is thin (Rico Dowdle and Deuce Vaughn). Cook may even be able to surpass Pollard as the starter by season's end.

With Week 18 on the horizon, it's likely Cook will wait to see who's in and who's out. But there will surely be at least one team interested in his late-season services.
