Garrett Wilson pleads with Jets fans amid reported locker room unrest

New York Jets wide receiver Garrett Wilson shared a direct message to fans after struggling quarterback Zach Wilson was booed multiple times during this past Sunday's home loss to the New England Patriots.

"Stick with us," Garrett Wilson said during a conversation with Ryan Dunleavy of the New York Post. "No one wants it more than us. We want to be great. It’s only going to get better from here. That’s the mindset I keep."

Garrett Wilson offered similar comments to Pro Football Talk's Mike Florio the same day that ESPN's Rich Cimini (h/t Bleacher Report) reported that Jets defensive players aren't thrilled head coach Robert Saleh is sticking with Zach Wilson as his QB1 for at least this Sunday's matchup between the 1-2 Jets and 2-1 Kansas City Chiefs at MetLife Stadium.

"This defense knows that if any other player was performing his job the way Wilson is performing his, that player would be benched," Cimini said on the "Flight Deck" podcast. "Trust me, there's tension in that locker room."

Also on Tuesday, Jets Week 1 starter Aaron Rodgers asked for "our fanbase, our former players, and our current players" to "stay behind our guys" after noteworthy individuals such as former Jets quarterbacks Boomer Esiason and Joe Namath publicly said they've seen "enough" of Zach Wilson in the lineup.

"I definitely feel for [Zach], and I know the way he goes about things on a day-to-day basis is probably what keeps his mind off that," Garrett Wilson told Dunleavy about how the signal-caller is dealing with the outside noise. "He wants it. That’s never in question. He’s going to keep pushing, and we’re all going to have his back along the way. I want to make every play I can for him."

Last November, Garrett Wilson openly bashed the passing game after Zach Wilson produced a dud against none other than the Patriots. The 2022 Offensive Rookie of the Year who appeared displeased with his quarterback during the club's latest loss is taking a different approach this time around, but that may not matter as it pertains to Zach Wilson's status if the Jets are blown out by Patrick Mahomes and company in East Rutherford in front of a prime-time television audience.
