Giants players to be dealt with 'internally' following maskless social gathering

Certain members of the New York Giants made headlines for all the wrong reasons over the final week and a half of October.

Big Blue squandered an 11-point lead to the division-rival Philadelphia Eagles en route to a 22-21 defeat that dropped the Giants to 1-6 on the season last Thursday. Less than 24 hours after that loss, New York shipped outside linebacker Markus Golden to the Arizona Cardinals, a sign that the Giants will be sellers ahead of the Nov. 3 trade deadline.

Insult was added to emotional injuries felt by passionate New York football fans this fall when stories emerged the club was investigating photos and videos linked to an alleged dinner that featured multiple players wearing no face coverings at a restaurant despite concerns related to the coronavirus pandemic.

"We're gonna deal with things internally," Giants head coach Joe Judge told reporters on Tuesday about that gathering, per Pat Leonard of the New York Daily News. "I believe they were trying to do the right thing with getting together and having dinner the other night."

Quarterback Daniel Jones was among the active Giants players caught on video dining without masks. As long as Jones and others return negative COVID-19 tests leading up to Monday night's game against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, they'd likely be subject only to fines handed down by the team.

The NFL and NFL Players Association could, however, get involved if multiple Giants players land on the reserve/COVID-19 list this week.
