Giants rookie Jalin Hyatt reportedly breaks NFL record during camp

The New York Giants knew rookie receiver Jalin Hyatt was fast when they took him in the third round of the 2023 NFL Draft.

However, it’s safe to say no one expected the University of Tennessee alum to do what he did on Monday: reach a speed never recorded in an NFL game. But that’s exactly what he did, according to USA Today’s Art Stapleton.

For perspective, the fastest speed any player has reached during an NFL game came in 2016 when Tyreek Hill reached 23.2 mph. The fastest speed recorded during the 2022 season was Parris Campbell, who reached 22.1 mph according to NextGen Stats.

The fastest speed ever recorded during any athletic competition was Usain Bolt’s 27.7 mph in the men’s 100-meter dash during the 2009 International Association of Athletics Federation World Championships.

Hyatt, who recorded a time of 4.40 in the 40-yard dash at the NFL Combine, was one of the best deep-ball receivers in college football last season. His 18.9 yards per reception ranked sixth in the country among receivers with 40 or more receptions, and his 1,267 yards were fifth-most in the NCAA.

The 6-foot wideout, who burst onto the scene at UT in 2022 with 67 receptions and 15 touchdowns, has been an early standout at Giants training camp, taking more reps with the first-team offense and turning in some impressive plays.
