Giants WR 'disaster' named cut candidate

Two years after signing a four-year, $72 million deal, New York Giants wide receiver Kenny Golladay is a prime cut candidate, per Pro Football Focus' Brad Spielberger.

"Golladay's tenure with the Giants has been an unmitigated disaster to the point where fans sarcastically applauded when he recorded a catch at MetLife Stadium this season, which happened twice in all of 2022," he wrote. "Golladay hardly played all year and logged just six snaps over two playoff games despite a bevy of injuries to the team's wide receiver group."

By releasing Golladay before June 1, the Giants would be taking on a dead cap charge of $14.7 million in 2023, according to Spotrac. New York would also face cap hits in both 2024 and 2025, but they would free up $6.7 million in cap space this offseason.

For a team that is looking to add to and build its roster in the offseason, these savings could be helpful, especially if they are looking to bring back both quarterback Daniel Jones and running back Saquon Barkley.

If the Giants move on from Golladay, he will have finished his tenure with only 26 games played. Over the past two seasons, he has recorded 43 receptions for 602 receiving yards and just one receiving touchdown.

Arguably his best outing of the 2022 season came in the final game of the regular season, where he recorded two receptions for 20 receiving yards and one touchdown.

In total, Golladay played in just 12 games in 2022, starting four. For much of the season, he was relegated to the sideline. In total, he played in just 261 offensive snaps. For a team that was in desperate need of help at the wide receiver position, his struggles to earn playing time only further the case that he could be on his way out.
