Hall of Famer bashes Raiders HC Josh McDaniels

A Hall of Famer believes Las Vegas Raiders head coach Josh McDaniels stifles the team's potential.

"We got the wrong guy at the helm," former Raiders and Buccaneers DT Warren Sapp said Tuesday on "What the Football with Suzy Shuster and Amy Trask." "We trying to implement something that is dead. The Patriot Way is dead. [Patriots HC] Bill Belichick even knows it ... and Josh McDaniels is trying to recreate something he doesn't have the credentials for."

McDaniels, who served as Patriots offensive coordinator for 13 seasons, failed in his first stint as an HC. In two seasons with the Denver Broncos, he posted a losing record (11-17) and was fired 12 games into the 2010 season. He has posted a 9-15 record with the Raiders.

"He's not Bill Belichick," Sapp said. "We watched him do this in Denver when he drafted Tim Tebow and ran the Broncos into the ground. He's gonna do the same [to the Raiders]."

Las Vegas (3-4) has a 6 percent chance to make the playoffs, per the New York Times simulator.

"McDaniels manages and coaches his team like he has top-10 defense, and the Raiders are heavy favorites in every game," wrote Ted Nguyen of The Athletic. "His conservatism doesn't work with a team that needs to take chances to win games."

Dianna Russini of The Athletic recently reported that "there have been whispers around the league that McDaniels could be in trouble if Las Vegas doesn't start winning."

It wouldn't be a shock if the Raiders canned McDaniels. He's lost the trust of former players and the fan base, and it appears the franchise is still heading in the wrong direction after only posting three winning seasons since 2013.
