Hue Jackson went 3-36-1 as the head coach of the Cleveland Browns but is convinced he did an amazing job leading the franchise.

No team in history put together a worse two-season stretch than the Browns did between 2016-17, when they went 1-31.

During an interview with 92.3 The Fan Jackson pushed back against the notion he was a big reason the Browns put together a historically bad stretch with him at the helm.

“I’ve said this before I think during those times [it was] probably some of the best coaching I did contrary to what people think because you’re always doing anything and everything you can to find a way to win. Whether it happens or not, that’s not up to me sometimes but I think I learned a lot being in that situation.”

He also said that his experience in Cleveland proves he “can overcome,” and that “a lot of people would run from it all” but he hasn’t.

He continued to tout his ability, despite the record of the Browns while he was the head coach: “I think I can just because of the situation in Cleveland doesn’t mean you can’t coach. There’s a lot of great coaches that have come before me that’s coached there and went on and did great things. Sometimes the situation is different.”

Jackson views the time he spent in Cleveland through a different lens than many, and it’s worth pointing out that the Browns drastically improved immediately after he was fired last season. In the eight games Jackson was the head coach, Cleveland went 2-5-1. Once Gregg Williams took over as the interim head coach, the Browns went 5-3.

The franchise’s new star quarterback, Baker Mayfield, also has made no bones about how he feels about Jackson — none of it is any good.

Needless to say, you’d be hard-pressed to find many people who agree that Jackson did an incredible job with the team he had in Cleveland.
