Insider hints Steelers are eyeing big-name WR

The Steelers are in the market for a wide receiver after trading Diontae Johnson to the Panthers and who they could add has fans on the edge of their seats after what has already been an exciting offseason.

There are a couple of intriguing options still available, including Mike Williams and Tyler Boyd. Williams is planning to visit Pittsburgh this week while Boyd has obvious ties to the city, growing up in Clairton, Pa., and playing his collegiate ball at the University of Pittsburgh.

However, insider Gerry Dulac of the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette believes the Steelers may be shooting higher than one of the remaining veterans on the open market. Dulac dropped several hints about Pittsburgh's potential plans at wide receiver on "The Rich Eisen Show."

"Or bigger is all I will tell you, Rich, and we shall see, but that is another step that they are going to make," Dulac said. "Like I said, it might not even be Mike Williams. It might be a bigger catch if you will."

If the Steelers were able to land Williams, the No. 7 overall pick in the 2017 NFL Draft, most fans would likely be ecstatic.

The 29-year-old has 309 receptions for 4,806 yards and 31 touchdowns in his seven-year NFL career.

However, there is a real chance he doesn't even make it to the Steelers as he has visits planned with the Jets and Panthers as well.

The Athletic's Mark Kaboly also revealed on Monday that Boyd might not be in the team's plans.

If Pittsburgh doesn't sign Williams or Boyd, Dulac's recent comments could have some serious weight to them. General manager Omar Khan has quickly changed the Steeler way, being aggressive to improve the roster in any way possible.

Dulac didn't say it specifically, but he seems to be hinting at a trade for an already established veteran. Who that could be remains up for debate, but nothing would be surprising at this point as Pittsburgh looks to add to its already revitalized roster.
