Jaguars release veteran RB Carlos Hyde

It looks like veteran running back Carlos Hyde will be looking for a new team to compete with for the sixth straight year in 2022.

Hyde is coming off of a 2021 season that saw him in a reduced role behind Jaguars workhorse back James Robinson. In 12 games, including two starts, Hyde produced career lows across the board in rushing attempts (72), rushing yards (253), rushing touchdowns (one) and rushing yards per game (21.1) among other categories.

Jacksonville had signed Hyde to a two-year, $4.5 million contract last March.

The 31-year-old was selected in the second round of the 2014 NFL Draft by the San Francisco 49ers and spent the first four years of his career in the Bay Area. After showing glimpses of productivity as a rookie and then in 2015, Hyde recorded over 1,000 yards from scrimmage in each of the next two campaigns.

Hyde set career highs in rushing touchdowns (eight), targets (88), receptions (59) and receiving yards (350) in 2017, while also posting a career-best 1,288 yards from scrimmage. He cashed in on a three-year, $15 million deal with the Cleveland Browns in the 2018 offseason, but was traded to the Jaguars after six games for a future fifth-round pick.

The Ohio St. product was with the Houston Texans in 2019 and had one of his best seasons, registering career highs in rushing attempts (245) and rushing yards (1,070), while picking up six touchdowns on the ground as well. Hyde signed a one-year deal with the Seattle Seahawks in 2020 and appeared in 10 contests with them before re-joining Jacksonville.
