Jeff Saturday makes plans for possible future with Colts

Jeff Saturday is looking to extend his stay as head coach of the Indianapolis Colts past this winter.

Saturday was shockingly hired as the Colts interim head coach on Nov. 7 and has gone 1-3 in his first four games at the helm. Indianapolis won their first contest under Saturday against the Las Vegas Raiders, but has lost to the Philadelphia Eagles, Pittsburgh Steelers and Dallas Cowboys since then.

The former ESPN analyst had no NFL or college coaching experience prior to taking the interim gig but played 14 seasons at center for the team from 1999 through 2012, making six Pro Bowls and winning one Super Bowl. Saturday's only head-coaching job before the Colts was at Hebron Christian Academy from 2017 to 2020, but he has a close relationship with Indianapolis owner Jim Irsay.

The Colts (4-8-1) are still mathematically alive for a playoff berth, but their recent skid has them fading fast. They'll face the Minnesota Vikings (10-3) on the road at 1 p.m. ET on Saturday.

Indianapolis closes out the regular season against the Houston Texans on Jan. 8, so Saturday could know his fate less than one month from now.
