Jets GM gives fans positive outlook on Aaron Rodgers trade

The New York Jets and Green Bay Packers have yet to work out a trade for quarterback Aaron Rodgers, but Joe Douglas had a strong message for Jets fans on Friday night.

His message was simple: Rodgers will be there for the 2023 season.

Douglas, the Jets general manager, was making an appearance at a WFAN event hosted by Boomer Esiason, with Esiason asking him point blank whether or not Rodgers was coming to the Jets.

The response was emphatic.

"He is going to be here."

Rodgers wants to play for only the Jets in 2023, and the Jets only want him to be their quarterback after struggling through another lost season of Zach Wilson, Mike White and Joe Flacco. But to this point, the two sides have been unable to agree to trade compensation for the future Hall of Fame quarterback.

Both teams believe they have some sort of leverage over the other.

The Jets know Rodgers doesn't want to play in Green Bay and that the Packers would prefer to move on with Jordan Love and dump Rodgers' contract.

The Packers know the Jets' options are limited to only Rodgers at this point if they want to seriously contend in 2023 and want to at least get some sort of fair compensation.

Even though Rodgers is not officially a Jet, they have already rolled out the red carpet for him, bringing in his former offensive coordinator (Nathaniel Hackett), one of his favorite targets at wide receiver (Allan Lazard) and a former backup quarterback in Tim Boyle. Now they just need to get Rodgers.
