Jets Re-Sign Offensive Lineman Jake Hanson

The Santa Clarita native was a collegiate standout for Oregon from 2015-2019. Hanson started 49 games over his Ducks tenure, missing only three games during that time. He did not allow a sack through his first three seasons. Hanson was a two-time second-team all-Pac-12 Conference selection. During his senior season, he allowed two sacks and four quarterback hits, and was an anchor of Oregon's offensive line -- which (as a unit) was a finalist for the Joe Moore Award. 

Hanson was selected by the Green Bay Packers with the No. 208 overall pick in the sixth round of the 2020 NFL Draft. Despite being waived prior to the start of the regular season; he was quickly signed to the Packers' practice squad. His season ended just over one month later when he was placed on the practice squad/injured list. 

In Jan. 2021, Hanson signed a reserves/futures contract with the Packers and would remain with the team for the next two seasons. He made his first NFL start on in Sept. 2022, at guard, in a 23–7 loss to the Minnesota Vikings, before being placed on injured reserve in October. 

While Hanson projects mostly as a depth option, the promise he showed in his four starts last season should place him in the mix to compete for a spot on the 53-man roster. The Jets are clearly prioritizing the upgrade of their offensive line, as evidenced by trading for Morgan Moses and signing John Simpson. New York's line struggled mightily last season, suiting up a total of fourteen different linemen and having utilized eleven offensive line combinations.
