Yesterday, the New York Jets announced that they signed CB Nehemiah Shelton. Standing at 6-2 and weighing 185 pounds, Shelton brings a combination of size and skill that the Jets hope to capitalize on this season.

A Familiar Face Returns

Shelton is no stranger to the Jets organization. After going undrafted in 2023, he joined the team last summer and spent time on the Jets practice squad in the fall. His experience with the team, albeit brief, gave him valuable insight into the defensive schemes and coaching philosophies.

Collegiate Standout

Before making his way to the NFL, Shelton had an impressive collegiate career at San Jose State University. He earned All-Mountain West honors in both 2021 and 2022, highlighting his consistent performance on the field. Over 45 games with the Spartans, Shelton amassed 195 tackles, 8 interceptions, and 32 pass defenses. His 2021 season was particularly noteworthy, as he ranked third in the nation with an average of 1.4 pass defenses per game. In 2022, he continued to excel, leading his team with 8 pass defenses and co-leading with 2 interceptions.

Journey to the Jets

After college, Shelton briefly joined the Memphis Showboats of the UFL before catching the attention of the Jets. His return to the team this summer is seen as a promising addition to the secondary unit, bringing depth and potential playmaking ability.
