Looks like the Tampa Bay Buccaneers dealt with the in-hand crisis of their star quarterback-wide receiver duo going into free agency this offseason. Shortly after resigning  Mike Evans , the Bucs agreed upon a satisfactory deal with their quarterback  Baker Mayfield

As ESPN reported, Tampa Bay and Mayfield have agreed upon a three-year contract extension worth more than $100 million, including a $50 million guaranteed. It also includes a $5 million incentive per year– bringing the contract up to $115 million.

Upon hearing Mayfield’s contract details, there’s one person who couldn’t be happier and prouder: Keyshawn Johnson. During a recent episode of Fox Sports show, Undisputed, Johnson showered high praises at the Bucs star quarterback, who not only led the team to the playoffs but also scored a postseason victory against the Philadelphia Eagles

They [Bucs] did what they should do, which is retain their quarterback. The quarterback that led them to a playoff victory. Not only did he lead them to a playoff victory over the Philadelphia Eagles… going into the season Baker Mayfield came over from the Rams, and signed a $4 million deal. He was betting on himself to be successful…had a little bit of a rough patch at some point of the season but fought through it. Keyshawn Johnson said

Baker Mayfield’s lucrative leap forward with the Bucs

The former Tampa Bay Buccaneers receiver asserted the 28-year-old had two seasons to prove his ability to fill in the NFL legend Tom Brady’s shoes. And he did it flawlessly in just one season– making himself worthy of every penny of his lucrative contract.

Johnson highlighted how after the franchise re-signed receiver Evans, it was foreseen that they would bring back Baker Mayfield as well. Given, if the quarterback had entered the free agency market it wouldn’t have taken much time for a team to take him from the Bucs, and Tampa Bay couldn’t let that happen. The ESPN analyst also highlighted that Mayfield’s offered deal puts the ball in his court.

I’m excited about him. He had the best, best season of his young career. And he deserves every single penny and then some. Keyshawn Johnson said

The 28-year-old finished the 2023 regular season with a passer rating of 94.6, 4,044 yards, 28 touchdowns, and 10 interceptions. Mayfield also led the Bucs to a post-season victory.
