Kyler Murray, DeAndre Hopkins ruled out vs. 49ers

Many expected the Arizona Cardinals to be without quarterback Kyler Murray and wide receiver DeAndre Hopkins, and the team made that official Sunday afternoon. Both players appeared on the injury report as questionable and were declared inactive by the team ahead of the Week 9 game against the San Francisco 49ers.

Murray, 24, didn't participate in any practices leading up to the game due to an ankle injury suffered late in the team's Week 8 loss to the Green Bay Packers. Hopkins, 29, left earlier in the Packers loss with a hamstring injury and also didn't participate in practices this week.

With Murray sidelined, the Cardinals will turn to Colt McCoy at quarterback in a crucial divisional game.

McCoy, 35, was a third-round pick for the Cleveland Browns in the 2010 NFL Draft and had stints with the 49ers, Washington Football Team and New York Giants before joining the Cardinals as a backup in the offseason.

In 12 NFL seasons, McCoy has appeared in 47 games and made 30 starts. He started two games for the Giants in 2020 and threw one touchdown and one interception.

The Cardinals entered Week 9 in a tie with the Los Angeles Rams at the top of the NFC West with a 7-1 record. Arizona defeated the Rams in Week 4, 37-20.
