Kyler Murray: Scrubbing of social media 'had nothing to do with the Cardinals'

It appears those involved would like the public to understand that all is well regarding the relationship between quarterback Kyler Murray and the Arizona Cardinals as of the early days of spring.

Murray, the first overall pick of the 2019 NFL Draft, raised eyes last month when he scrubbed his social media accounts of any mention of his current employer and also unfollowed the Cardinals. Fuel was poured on the figurative fire when Erik Burkhardt, Murray's agent, released a lengthy statement on Feb. 28 that made it clear his client wanted a new deal and that it was up to the club to honor that request.

On March 8, Murray returned the Cardinals images to social media. Per Myles Simmons of Pro Football Talk, the 24-year-old claimed at a charity event on Thursday his actions had nothing to do with any friction caused by his wishes to be paid in a big way this offseason.

"No that was — like I said, if you’re a kid my age, you’re used to like … people take off all of their — that’s just a thing," Murray said. "Honestly, like I said, I took everything off of it, beside one picture. So it had nothing to do with the Cardinals or anything like that."

The two-time Pro Bowl selection added:

"I’m an Arizona Cardinal. I’ve done nothing but give my all to the Cardinals and will continue to do that. So I’m not really too worried about it."

If there's anything the quarterback carousel of 2022 has taught, it's that such public commitments from either players or teams are often short-lived.
