Lions QB Jared Goff day-to-day with oblique injury ahead of Browns game

Baker Mayfield isn't the only "beat up" quarterback among the available options who could start for Sunday's game between the 5-5 Cleveland Browns and 0-8-1 Detroit Lions.

It was learned Tuesday that Detroit starting signal-caller Jared Goff could miss the Browns contest because of the oblique injury he picked up in this past Sunday's 16-16 tie with the Pittsburgh Steelers, and Eric Woodyard of ESPN notes Goff didn't practice Wednesday and is considered day-to-day halfway through the week.

Goff played through the issue in Pittsburgh and completed 14-of-25 passes for 114 yards with zero touchdowns. He admitted after the tie the injury "was bothering" him during the contest but added: "If I couldn't have thrown, I wouldn't have gone."

Backup and unproven commodity Tim Boyle is next up on the depth chart and will start in Cleveland if Goff can't go. Head coach Dan Campbell may elect to sit Goff for at least a week considering the 27-year-old is dead last among eligible players with a 27.3 total QBR, per ESPN stats.

Goff has 2,109 passing yards with only eight touchdowns and six interceptions through nine games this season.

Mayfield, meanwhile, has been dealing with a significant injury to his non-throwing shoulder since Sept. 19 and also has newer foot and knee issues. Case Keenum will start for the Browns if Mayfield can't play.
