A lot was made of the Washington Commanders top pass rushing duo Chase Young and Montez Sweat skipping last year’s voluntary OTAs. Some pointed to the fact the two weren’t at OTAs for their down seasons in 2021.

However, no fret Commanders fans, both were front and center on Day 1 of this year’s offseason team activities.

Young is coming off a torn ACL he suffered in Week 10 against Tampa Bay.

On Monday he was spotted pushing a sled which is a great indication of how his rehabilitation has gone.

After winning Defensive Rookie of the Year in 2020, Chase Young struggled in his sophomore year in the NFL. He had a mere 1.5 sacks through nine games before his season was cut short by injury.

In March, Washington head coach Ron Rivera said Young had a “ little bit of an awakening.”

Montez Sweat struggled too. His 5.0 sacks in 10 games was a huge letdown from the expectations Young and he put on themselves. Sweat also had to deal with a broken jaw that sidelined him a month; a bout with COVID; and the murder of his older brother.

It was also a great sign to see Sweat at Day 1 of OTAs. Hopefully, the duo can put last season’s woes behind them and get back on track during the 2022 season.
