Denver Broncos quarterback Drew Lock was driving through Kansas recently when a rogue lug nut flew into his windshield.
According to Ben Trooper on Twitter, the lug nut flew over a median, and went straight into Lock’s windshield, but thankfully, the thick glass halted the lethal projectile from going through and harming him.
Lock is currently awaiting the opening of Broncos training camp later this month, where he’ll be for the starting QB job with veteran signal-caller Teddy Bridgewater.
The 24-year-old was a second-round pick in the 2019 NFL Draft out of Missouri, and played rather well as a rookie, posting a 4-1 record as a starter. Unfortunately, the transition to a new offensive system last year, not to mention the COVID-19 pandemic, led Lock to have a sophomore slump in which he went 4-9 in the games he started.
Because of Lock’s declining performance, Bridgewater was brought in from the Carolina Panthers to push him for the top spot on Denver’s depth chart.
Head coach Vic Fangio has the Broncos’ defense playing at a high level, and it should be among the best units in football in 2021. How Denver fares largely comes down to its play on offense, which is loaded with young skill position talent, featuring Courtland Sutton, Jerry Jeudy and Noah Fant.
Whatever happens with the team and Lock’s career going forward, though, the most important takeaway here from this particular story is that Lock is okay and avoided potentially serious injury in this freakish car incident.
