The New England Patriots fell to 0-2 on the season with another tough loss on Sunday night, and Mac Jones seemed to hint at some frustration with his teammates after the game.
Similar to their 25-20 loss to the Philadelphia Eagles in Week 1, Jones and New England’s offense failed to get the job done late in the fourth quarter. While Jones threw a brutal interception deep in Miami territory, he was far from the Patriots’ only problem.
Following the game, Jones indicated that not all of his teammates have been putting in enough work during the week. The third-year quarterback said it is “not good enough” if only a couple of guys are showing up to the facility early and leaving late.
“Definitely gotta play better and learn from it and, you know, be here early and leave late and do it together. I think that’s the biggest thing,” Jones said. “If a couple guys are doing it, it’s not good enough, clearly. So we’ve gotta put more into it and we’ll get more out of it.”
While he did not openly say that he thinks some of his teammates need to work harder, the message from Jones was pretty clear. He obviously feels there are some Patriots players who could be doing more.
The Patriots had several offensive linemen injured heading into Sunday’s game, which was a huge issue. They allowed four sacks and several hits. There were a number of plays where Jones had to get rid of the ball almost immediately upon receiving the snap because Dolphins defenders had free runs at him.
Some will say the Patriots got a bad spot on the wild play that ended the game. Others have blamed Jones for not taking a big enough leap even with Bill O’Brien now coaching him. In reality, the Patriots have too many holes on their roster to play from behind. That has been evident in their first two games.
