NFL exec suggests intriguing solution to facilitate Aaron Rodgers trade

Where and if Aaron Rodgers will play in 2023 is still a mystery. However, if Rodgers decides he wants out of Green Bay, there is one giant obstacle in the way. The Packers would have to find a team willing to trade away high-value assets without knowing Rodgers' playing future past next season.

Per ESPN's Jeremy Fowler, an NFC executive suggested an intriguing solution to that problem, making the draft picks received by the Packers in a deal for Rodgers conditional based on how long the quarterback plays. Fowler included an example, suggesting that a second-round selection would become a first-rounder if Rodgers plays beyond 2023.

Rodgers spoke this week about conversations regarding his future occurring without him, adding that he'd let the world know "one way or the other" after he's made up his mind. Though, Rodgers' comments haven't stopped the never-ending speculation surrounding where he might land.

Many expect the Las Vegas Raiders and New York Jets to be front runners for Rodgers should the Packers look to trade him.

On Thursday, a report from the Senior Bowl said that Jets general manager Joe Douglas told those present that the franchise would go "all out" to bring Rodgers to New York. Meanwhile, Rodgers' link to the Raiders got even stronger after former teammate, wideout Davante Adams, openly campaigned for a reunion this week on social media.

The Jets and Raiders have invested a lot in quarterbacks who likely won't be on their rosters come next season. With that in mind, if there are assurances built into a deal protecting the team acquiring Rodgers from giving up a haul for only one season with the future Hall of Famer, the odds that the Jets and Raiders pursuit gets hotter would go up.
